Assystem’s Energy and Infrastructure
division will deploy Dassault Systèmes’
3DEXPERIENCE platform to build a new
information system for its engineering
missions on nuclear facilities, to
support engineering data management,
configuration management, procurement,
program management and resourcing
capabilities.
Dassault Systèmes will leverage this
collaboration with Assystem to deepen
the identification of specific challenges
and needs of the nuclear sector. This
knowledge will be used to develop
future industry solution experiences
based on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform
that can digitally transform processes
and methodologies, improve efficiency
and, ultimately, enhance the owner and
operator experience.
Nuclear power plants and other
large assets have a lifecycle of about
50 years, making safety, compliance
and delivery critical. Owners and
operators face design, construction,
operations and maintenance challenges
due to limited resources, tight margins,
high operational risk, and complex
stakeholder communication, among
other factors. The 3DEXPERIENCE
platform connects all stakeholders, and
ensures data traceability and alignment
with compliance, requirements and
specifications throughout the engineering
phase.

Board of Directors
Amir Shahkarami has joined the
Board of Directors of
Engineering
Planning and Management (EPM),
Inc.
Amir has over 35 years of experience
in the nuclear industry including 13 years
with Exelon. He retired from Exelon
in 2014 as CEO of Exelon Nuclear
Partners. Previous to that he was Senior
VP of Engineering & Technical Services
and Site VP for Braidwood Nuclear
Station. Prior to Exelon, Amir worked
at Entergy, Detroit Edison, Sargent &
Lundy, and Brown & Root. Amir has
led some of the key industry initiatives
as Executive Chairman of both the BWR
& PWR Owners Groups. He also served
as Chairman of the Nuclear Industry
Summit Working Group on Cyber
Security. Amir is the founder, President,
and CEO of CASe Global Partners,
Inc. which provides complex financial
and technical mathematical modeling,
computer analysis, and consultation

Fit for Nuclear
Fine Tubes
, a manufacturer and
global supplier of precision tubes for
critical applications, has successfully
completed the Fit for Nuclear (F4N)
programme run by Nuclear Advanced
Manufacturing
Research
Centre
(AMRC)
f4n/companies/
F4N is a service designed to help UK
manufacturing companies win contracts in
the civil nuclear supply chain by measuring
their operations against exacting industry
standards. The programme involves an
initial audit of a company’s capabilities
and procedures undertaken by a Nuclear
AMRC assessor, who also helps the
company develop an action plan to make
the changes required to close any gaps
between its current performance and the
nuclear industry’s expectations.

Research Project
The U.S. Department of Energy
(DOE) has announced that
GE Hitachi
Nuclear Energy
(GEH) has been selected
to lead a $2 million manufacturing
research project.
GEH will lead the project by
producing sample replacement parts for
nuclear power plants. The samples will
be 3D printed in metal at the GE Power
Advanced Manufacturing Works facility
in Greenville, SC and then be shipped
to the Idaho National Laboratory (INL).
Once irradiated in INL’s Advanced Test
Reactor, the samples will be removed,
tested and compared to an analysis of
unirradiated material conducted by
GEH. The results will be used by GEH
to support deployment of 3D printed
parts for fuels, services and new plant
applications.

Pressurized Water
Reactors
Global Nuclear Fuel-Americas
(GNF-A) and TVEL Fuel Company
today announced an agreement to work
together toward the licensing, marketing
and fabrication of fuel for U.S. customers
operating Pressurized Water Reactors
(PWRs). Under the agreement, GNF-A
and TVEL will form a strategic alliance
with the purpose of introducing lead use
assemblies (LUAs) of the Russian TVS-K
fuel design in the U.S. and seeking
licensing approval from the U.S. Nuclear
Regulatory Commission to supply the
fuel in reload quantities.
Within the alliance, GNF-A will
provide U.S.-based project management,
licensing,
quality
assurance
and
engineering services while TVEL
will provide TVS-K design expertise,
engineering support and initial fabrication
of lead use assemblies. Subsequent LUAs
are planned to be produced at GNF-A’s
Wilmington N.C. facility.
