Welding and Repair Technology
Center: Overlay Handbook
. Product ID:
3002000616. Published November, 2013.
This report documents case histories
and lessons learned from successful and
unsuccessful applications involvingAlloy
52 weld overlays, providing a welding
perspective and an inspection perspective.
Information was obtained through direct
interaction with utility personnel, service
vendors, and inspection groups.
2.
MaterialsReliabilityProgram:Effects
of Surface Peening on the Inspectability of
Nondestructive Evaluation
. Product ID:
3002000656. Published November, 2013.
To study emerging component repair
and mitigation techniques and their
potential effects on applied nondestructive
evaluation (NDE), the Electric Power
Research Institute (EPRI) Materials
Reliability Program inspection technical
advisory committee funded a multiyear
project, which began in 2010. This report
investigates the effects of various peening
processes on routine applications of NDE
inspection techniques.
3.
Out-of-Reactor Corrosion Tests of
Fuel Cladding Materials: Corrosion as
a Function of Hydrogen Overpressure
.
Product ID: 3002000508. Published
November, 2013.
EPRI has sponsored laboratory
experiments to investigate whether an
increased dissolved hydrogen (DH) level
in the reactor coolant of pressurized
water reactors (PWR) would result in
increased hydrogen pickup (HPU) by the
fuel cladding and spacer weld structure
materials. This report documents
exposure of clean, modern zirconium-
based alloys for up to 730 days at three
DH levels as well as exposure of Zircaloy
4 (Zry-4) specimens with different types
of nickel contacts for 100 days at three
DH levels.

Steam Generator Management
Program: Generic Elements of U-Bend
TubeVibrationInducedFatigueAnalysisfor
Westinghouse Model F SteamGenerators.
Product ID: 3002001991. Published
December, 2013.
U-bend tube ruptures due to metal
fatigue have been experienced by several
utilities worldwide. The first fatigue-
related tube rupture occurred at North
Anna Unit 1 in 1987. The knowledge
gained from this event provides the basis
for estimating the potential for a fatigue
failure in other plants. This report provides
thegeneric information for aWestinghouse
Model F steam generator, and defines the
information required to complete a plant-
specific u-bend analysis to determine
susceptibility to fatigue failure.

Guidelines for the Development of
PressureReliefDeviceSpecialists
. Product
ID: 3002001878. Published December,
2013.
To develop the knowledge areas
and the progression of skills in the
three skill sets presented in the report,
guidance was sought from individuals at
utility organizations, vendors, industry
specialists, and industry working groups
who are responsible for determining
requirements and maintaining pressure
relief devices.

Human Factors Engineering (HFE)
Training Course for Operating Nuclear
Power Plant Personnel
. Product ID:
3002000319. Published December, 2013.
This report provides materials for a
human factors engineering (HFE) training
course for operating nuclear power plant
(NPP) personnel involved in modification
projects. The material consists of Basic
andAdvanced sections. The Basic section
provides an overview of HFE and its
application atNPPs.TheAdvanced section
provides detailed descriptions of selected
HFE activities and methods, and includes
numerous examples and exercises. The
course focuses on the main control room
(MCR) and Human-System Interfaces
(HSIs) locatedwithin theMCR. Inaddition,
the course is applicable to other worker
locations and activities, such as local
control stations, Emergency Response
Facilities (ERFs), and maintenance
activities.

Guidelines for Electromagnetic
Compatibility Testing of Power Plant
Equipment
. Product ID: 3002000528.
Published December, 2013.
To continue meeting safety and
reliability requirements while controlling
costs, operators of nuclear power plants
must be able to replace and upgrade
equipment in a cost-effective manner.
One issue that has been problematic for
new plant equipment and especially for
digital instrumentation and control (I&C)
systems in recent years is electromagnetic
compatibility (EMC). The EMC issue
usually involves testing to showthat critical
equipment will not be adversely affected
by electromagnetic interference (EMI)
in the plant environment. This guide will
help nuclear plant engineers address EMC
issues qualification testing in a consistent,
comprehensive manner.

Emergency Diesel Generator Digital
Control System Upgrade Requirements
.
Product ID: 3002002098. Published
December, 2013.
This interim report documents the
development of system requirements
for a digital control system upgrade to
the station emergency diesel generators
(EDGs). Operators of nuclear power
plants (NPPs) must be able to replace and
upgrade equipment in a cost-effective
manner while continuing to meet safety
and reliability requirements andcontrolling
modification costs. Upgrades to plant
equipment—especially instrumentation
and control (I&C) systems—typically
involve replacement of analogdeviceswith
moremoderndigital technology.However,
the use of digital technology has identified
new design and licensing issues.
9. NewSoftwareHelpsDiagnoseNuclear
Plant Issues Before Problems Occur.
Product ID: 3002002369. Published
December, 2013.
Nuclear plant managers can make
better informed decisions about the
upcoming needs of their plants with new
diagnostic software tools from EPRI.
