Loop Powered Bar-Meter
What failed in your process, the
signal or the meter? Do you presently
finger-tap your analog meter to find out
or do you just ignore it? If you ignore
it, it might be disastrous. Especially if
you are in the control room of a nuclear
power plant, ship, refinery or cockpit!
OTEK’s
new technology LPD Series
won’t let you ignore it. When the loop
or signal fails, it will flash its display for
~20 seconds, transmit the isolated Serial
I/O (USB/485) and then go dark! Now
you know and have a record of it. All this
is done without power because the LPD
is 100% signal powered. To replace your
analog loop meter, simply connect the
LPD in parallel and then disconnect the
old one.
“Switchboard”meters have been very
popular for over 100 years and are known
as ANSI 4", meaning that they require
a 4" diameter hole in the panel for the
barrel that houses the electromechanical
(needle) movement.
Since the LPD-3 has no moving
parts, there is no need for a “barrel”.
The LPD-3 has all connectors (euro-
style screw type) within the original
4” diameter area, but there is no depth
behind the panel. Everything is housed in
the bezel. The LPD-3 replaces form and
fit the popular DB40 by several makers.

Electric Motor Power
Connector
Curtiss-Wright Nuclear’s
QualTech
NP business unit has developed a
solution to low and medium voltage
power lead connections used in safety-
related applications. The Electric Motor
Power Connector (EMPC) offers quick
connect and disconnect functionality and
is ideal for connections such as found on
electric motor applications. The EMPC
offers maximum reliability, qualified
configuration control, ALARA savings,
and the potential for significant outage
time savings.
The EMPC is developed with the
same ease of installation philosophy as the
popular GRAYBOOT series connectors,
and builds on the GRAYBOOT’S proven
record of environmentally qualified,
dependable, repeatable and secure
electrical connections.
An alternative to thermal and
tape splices, the EMPC is available in
a variety of configurations designed
to solve the widest possible range of
applications, including 1 to 1, 2 to 1, 3
to 1, V and 90 degree connections. The
EMPC can be used on any low voltage
or medium voltage cable, shielded or
unshielded, with solid insulation. It is
also available with a special, easy to
apply, stress control option for medium
voltage applications utilizing shielded
cable. EMPC is available for cable sizes
ranging from 8AWG to 750MCM.

superior
products
and
innovative solutions to time-sensitive
situations. CCSI has experience and
expertise providing the nuclear industry
with diaphragms/bladders for their
containment systems. They provide on-
site inspections to determine the scope of
work necessary, modifications required,
trouble-shooting of containment system
problems and turnkey services for the
repair or replacement of the diaphragm.
CCSI provides the nuclear industry
with engineering support. They have
provided the nuclear industry with
products for Reactor Makeup Water
Storage Tanks (RMWST), Condensate
Storage Tanks (CST), Recycle Holdup
Storage Tanks (RHT), Boric Acid Storage
Tanks, Demineralized Water Storage
Tanks, and Gas Holder Diaphragms.
CCSI is certified by the American
Association of Mechanical Engineers
(ASME) for use of the “U”, “S” and “PP”
stamp. Additionally, they are certified for
using the National Board of Boiler and
Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBI) “R”
Stamp.
CCSI provides turnkey services to
clients. They design, fabricate and install
the diaphragms.

Contracts
Outage & Maintenance
PSEG Nuclear has extended through
2022 the contract signed with
AREVA
Inc. for outage and maintenance activities
at the Salem and Hope Creek nuclear
generating stations in Salem County, N.J.
As an extension of the contract
signed in July 2013, AREVA will
continue to provide its technical support
to PSEG’s pressurized and boiling water
reactors through refueling, inspections
and steam generator services. This
contract reinforces AREVA’s position as
a service supplier in the boiling water
reactor market.
Located on the same site, PSEG
Nuclear’s Salem and Hope Creek
generating stations comprise the second
largest commercial nuclear facility in the
United States. Together, the three units
generate enough electricity to power
approximately three million homes each
day.
