WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC COMPANY LLC
Westinghouse is invested – and investing – in the
future of nuclear and the long-term viability of
operating nuclear power plants. Our dedication
to extending the life of the operating fleet drives
us to commit 75 percent of our innovation
budget to develop solutions that enable safe
and reliable long-term operation.
We’ve formed an Engineering Center of
Excellence to leverage engineering knowledge
and experience that sparks innovations,
responds to emergent issues and solves critical
industry challenges, such as our dedicated
teams who are focused on the longevity and
integrity of steam generators, reactor vessels
and their internals, concrete civil structures,
cabling, buried equipment and piping, and
instrumentation and controls.
Our concentrated innovation focus led to recent
advanced solutions such as the reactor coolant
pump O-ring for extended life to nine years
or six cycles, Zephyr® Advanced Acquisition
System for steam generators that saves
operators an average 22 hours of critical path
time with impressive dose and waste reductions,
laser peening to mitigate and eliminate stress
corrosion cracking in reactor internals, and
many more.
Our customers’ life-extension needs not
only drive our innovation but also inform
and influence collaborative efforts across
the industry. We are actively involved with
organizations such as the Consortium for
Advanced Simulation of Light Water Reactors
to provide leading edge modeling and
simulation that improves currently operating
light water reactor performance. We work with
the Nuclear Utility Obsolescence Group to
facilitate information and solutions sharing, the
Pressurized Water Reactors Owners Group to
address acute industry issues economically, the
American Society of Mechanical Engineers to
lead international codes and standards and the
Nuclear Energy Institute as part of the Second
License Renewal Task Force.
Westinghouse understands that a viable plant
tomorrow starts today with predictable breaker-
to-breaker runs and shorter planned outages.
Our alliance customers experience up to 30
percent fewer forced outage hours, improved
outage times up to 25 percent, and increases
in availability of up to 30 percent compared
to non-alliance peers in the industry. Together,
we are helping to deliver the Nuclear Promise –
increased operation at lower cost.
For 130 years, companies have looked to
Westinghouse for practical innovations to solve
their most pressing operational challenges. Find

Mike Pribish, director of U.S. Operations, Operating Plants
Services, works in one of Westinghouse’s two Outage
Control Centers, which feature live outage feeds from
customer sites, aiding in operational excellence and
response to emergent needs.
Westinghouse offers unique testing facilities, capable of
examining and testing both new and highly irradiated
materials. Here, a milling operation takes place inside the
Westinghouse Hot Cell using manipulators and live video
feed.
