What is the utilities’, EPRI’s or any
other organization’s role in AREVA’s
CGD program?
AREVA’s CGD Program is based on
applicable EPRI guidance. This guidance
includes EPRI NP-5652, "Guideline for
theUtilizationofCommercialGrade Items
in Nuclear Safety Related Applications",
the primary original document, as
well as the supplemental guidance
in EPRI TR-102260, "Supplemental
Guidance for the Application of EPRI
Report NP-5652 on the Utilization of
Commercial Grade Items", the current
guidance document EPRI 3002002982
(Plant Engineering: Guideline for the
Acceptance of Commercial-Grade Items
in Nuclear Safety-Related Applications:
Revision 1 to EPRI NP-5652 and TR-
102260) and a number of other EPRI
guidelines for sampling, dedicating
digital equipment and performing
technical evaluations. The AREVA CGD
Program also considered the applicable
requirements of standards and guidance
established by ASME, IEEE, the Nuclear
Energy Institute and other industry
organizations, as well as pertinent NRC
generic letters and information notices,
all in accordance with the requirements
of 10CFR21, "Reporting of Defects and
Noncompliance" as performed under
the AREVA 10CFR50 Appendix B –
compliant quality assurance program for
dedicating commercial-grade items.
AREVA has also implemented
improvements to the CGD Program in
response to the results of audits performed
by customers, mainly licensees, and
industry organizations, such as the
Nuclear Procurement Issues Committee.
In addition, AREVA’s involvement
in several industry organizations,
most notably EPRI, influenced the
CGD Program through the exchange
of information and working group
participation.
