of controlled areas. Additionally, this
system is a solution for plants that have
not implemented low-leakage seals or
that do not have enough protected borated
water sources to support shutdown modes
indefinitely, as required.
Arizona Public Service worked with
Westinghouse to customize the design,
and Palo Verde will use the patented
Westinghouse Mobius system as part of
its operational flexibility strategies. The
system has been tailored to Palo Verde’s
system performance requirements and
provides
plant-specific
operational
benefits, connection interfaces and
operational enhancements, including a
fully automated control system with a
touch screen graphical user interface.
The plant also has future plans to use
it at the start of outages to borate the
reactor coolant system to refueling boron
concentrations at a rate much faster than
current methods can accommodate.
