After repairs were completed, the pump
was immediately tested. The customer
witnessed test results better than what had
been originally estimated and anticipated
for the developed head. The measured head
of the duty flow was just ~ +0.7% (approx.
+2 FT abs) more than the upper limit.
The customer immediately approved the
test results; there was no need for further
modifications and retesting. This step saved
crucial time in urgently completing this
emergency repair.
Quick Turnaround
Once the pumpmet all the requirements
as per the specifications, the pump was
packaged and shipped back to the plant
eight days following after its arrival at the
decontamination site. This was only possible
due to the combined efforts of the customer
and Hydro’s service center. Factors such as
flexibility of the facility and its personnel,
proactive measures, qualified and thorough
engineering analysis, professional and
experienced repair procedures, and having
the pump test facility under the same roof
contributed to such a quick turnaround.
Customer Feedback
Immediately after the repaired pump’s
arrival at the nuclear power plant, the
customer installed the pump and it was taken
back into service after satisfactory results of
pre-service tests. The customer commented

that they were particularly satisfied that
HydroAire could turn around such a
complex job, including decontamination
and final testing, in only nine days.
