(HI-Q) has developed a comprehensive environmental air flow meter with enhanced communication capability using cellular technology. The Model DFMC-SD-SMS provides Users with real-time flow-rate, temperature, and barometric pressure information that can be logged at user-selected intervals. For field upgrades, this unit can also be added to existing air sampling stations. Through the implementation of a barometric pressure sensor, thermocouple, precision machined venturi tube and differential pressure sensor, the microprocessor-based air flow meter measures, records, and displays instantaneous flow rate, temperature, and barometric pressure. Using onboard calculations, the User may choose to display the flow rate and total volume in either actual or standard units. The processor also includes a removable micro SD card for logging data at a user- selectable frequency. Log files can be downloaded to a PC as a CSV file. The processor and a modem (activated on User’s cellular account) are configured to send SMS messages during power failure and other user-programmed events (such as low-flow rate or high-flow rate). The DFMC-SD-SMS can be programmed to start and stop the sampling at certain times, sample for selected intervals and sample until a total sample volume is reached. Instantaneous display of actual & standard flow rate (ACFM, SCFM, ALPM, SLPM). Instantaneous display of total volume in actual and standard units (ACF, AL, SCF, SL). Measurement and display of temperature air flow (degrees F or C). Measurement and display of barometric pressure (in Hg or mm Hg). Illuminated graphic LCD screen. Modem programmed to send SMS messages during power failure and other user-programmed events. Continuous data logging. Removable micro SD card. Programmable timer & total volume shut-off. NIST traceable factory calibration. Contact: Thomas E. O’Malley, HI-Q Environmental Products Co., Inc., telephone: (858) 549-2820, fax: (858 549-9657. Contracts EATF Framatome signed a contract to deliver two full fuel assemblies using the company’s industry-leading Enhanced Accident Tolerant Fuel (EATF) solution to Exelon Generation’s Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant in February 2021. Developed under Framatome’s PROtect program, these assemblies contain the company’s near-term solution, with chromia-enhanced pellets and chromium- coated M5 Framatome cladding. This is the fourth contract Framatome has signed and the fourth reactor type to which the company will supply fuel assemblies with EATF. Framatome’s PROtect EATF designs are more tolerant to loss of active cooling in the reactor core for longer periods, as their reduced oxidation behavior thereby increases coping time. Simultaneously, this fuel offers improved performance during normal operations, allowing operators greater flexibility and efficiency. This fuel design benefits from Framatome’s work with the U.S. Department of Energy, which recently granted the company an additional $49 million in funding for its PROtect EATF program. In addition, European partners like CEA, which initially identified the suitable cladding coating, EDF, Goesgen Nuclear Power Plant in Switzerland, and leaders from across the nuclear sector have collaborated for several years on aspects of this fuel design. System Modernization Framatome was awarded a contract to modernize the reactor protection system (RPS) of the Gösgen Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) operated by the Swiss utility Kernkraftwerk Gösgen-Däniken AG. The RPS powers down reactors safely in case of any deviations. The scope of the contract includes modernization of the entire RPS using Framatome‘sprovendigital instrumentation and control (I&C) platform, TELEPERM XS. In addition, important functions will be realized with a diverse hardwired back-up system. Installation and commissioning of the new RPS are scheduled for the plant’s 2022 outage. The modernization project enhances plant safety, supports long-term operation and protects investments into the future. The signing of the contract was preceded by the successful modernization of the plant’s four emergency diesel generators, including the upgrade of the entire I&C and electrical systems with Framatome’s digital technology. In 2014, Framatome completed the digital modernization of the plant’s reactor control and limitation. Contact: Framatome, telephone: (434) 856-6560, email: press@ framatome.com. Stack Sampling Systems HI-Q Environmental Products Company, Inc. (HI-Q), has been awarded a contract from TerraPower, LLC to design the complete stack sampling systems for two laboratories in the Seattle area. Also included in the work scope is both scale model and in-situ testing to qualify the stack sampling locations as required by ANSI N13.1-2011. The turn-key, stack sampling systems include custom mounting for single point shrouded probes, high transmission efficiency filter holders, vacuum pump systems with automatic flow control, digital display of flow rate, min/max flow rate and total volume. The scalemodel testswill beperformed at HI-Q’s San Diego manufacturing facility and will include the full suite of tests to confirm that the sampling location has adequate mixing for single point sampling as required by ANSI N13.1-2011. HI-Q will also perform the confirmatory testing on the installed stack to validate the scale model test results.
