These deposits can reduce efficient heat transfer and increase corrosion. This technology allows operators to better understand mineral deposits, helping them develop mitigative or corrective actions. Joseph Wyatt, advisory engineer of Framatome’s Installed Base Business Unit in the United States, as well as John Griffith, retired advisory engineer, and Dr. Mike Pop, retired materials and chemistry expert, developed this method. To date, Framatome in the United States has been awarded more than 265 patents, which are credited to more than 400 inventors. Acquisition GSE Systems, Inc. , a leader in real- time high-fidelity simulation systems, training/consulting and technology- enabled engineering solutions to the power and process industries, announced that the Company acquired True North Consulting, LLC, a provider of specialty engineering solutions to the nuclear power industry. Founded in 1999 in Montrose, Colorado, True North generated revenue of approximately $11 million, of which over 85% came from the nuclear power industry, for the year-ended December 31, 2017. True North employs roughly 60 full-time and part-time professionals with expertise in areas such as in-service testing for engineering programs focused on ASME OM code including Appendix J, balance of plant programs, thermal performance, in-service inspection for specialty engineering including ASME Section XI, and software solutions. The new AP1000 ® plants, for example, have a very modern digital platform. Some of that technology is being leveraged for the existing operating fleet. Some of our customers have chosen to upgrade certain components to incorporate newer digital technology. Example of this are plants that have upgraded their turbine controls to the Westinghouse Ovation TM -based advanced digital turbine control and protection systems. 10. How do you cooperate with INPO and US NRC during their inspections and how do you implement their recommendations? We have periodic audits, and we have partnerships. INPO has helped us perform some assessments. We also have an internal Nuclear Safety Review Board that audits us periodically. 11. Concluding comments. It’s important to Westinghouse, the industry and all of our partners that we continue to implement our outage delivery model. Through it, we continue to learn from our current operations in inspections and maintenance, share and broadly incorporate best practices and lessons learned, so that we continue to improve. We have customers on our advisory teams and incorporate their pre- job and post-job input for outages. Their voice helps us to drive our efficiencies and our effectiveness just as much as the innovation elements and the regulatory components. When you’re talking about outages and service to a plant, it’s imperative to implement a continual improvement cycle. Finding ways to become more efficient, be safer and reduce errors is always our goal. Contact: Donna Ruff, Westinghouse Electric Company, telephone: (412) 374- 4705, email: ruffdl@westinghouse.com.
