Heavy & Light Machining NCM has vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers with up to 40 ft. capacity; horizontal boring mills to machine parts up to 24 ft. wide and 18 ft. high; vertical boring mills that fit parts up to 21 ft. high; lathes with capacity up to 200 in. long; CNC mill turns with up to nine axes; and grinders and precision machining centers that can hold tolerances of 0.0001 in. Our water-jet cutting machine has the largest capacity ever built by the premier supplier of this technology. This machine can rapidly produce parts with fast setup time, while holding tolerances of 0.005 in. It cuts materials up to 8 in. thick. Manufacturing, Welding & Fabrication NCM specializes in precision and complex welding with ASME and AWS qualifications. In addition, the site is experienced in structural and bi-metallic welding along with wear and corrosion resistance overlay, complemented with robotic CNC TIG, plasma transferred arc and laser beam welding. NCM also is qualified in metal inert gas, flux core, submerged arc, and other techniques for a wide variety of base metal and filler material types. Testing & Nondestructive Examination NCM has full-scale test loops for reactor coolant pumps and control rod drive mechanisms, including a 50 Hz transformer for international motors. There is a dedicated work cell for free-path resistance testing of reactor vessel internals guide tubes. NCM routinely performs hydrostatic testing and magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, visual, ultrasonic, and radiography inspections onsite, and has a dedicated radiographic testing (RT) facility. Our quality inspectors are certified up to Level III of SNT-TC in nondestructive testing. The facility also has numerous ASME certificates of authorization. Equipment Design for Manufacturability (DFM) Westinghouse has significant experience in equipment design and design for manufacturability. The team provides insight to the direct impacts that design and processing specifications will have on the cost of manufacturing – a critical advantage in implementing changes that meet design intent while minimizing costs.
