56 NuclearPlantJournal.com Nuclear Plant Journal, July-August 2019 Advocacy Communications Immediately following First Energy’s announcement of three plant closures, Generation Nation members took to the social media airways, helping generate nearly 350,000 impressions. Advocates also sent more than 3,000 emails to more than 60 members of the U.S. House of Representative in support of the Nuclear Powers America Act. An online campaignwas developed to encourage Pennsylvania legislators to join the state’s Nuclear Energy Caucus, resulting in hundreds of emails to state representatives and senators. Generation Nation members hosted an employee-led motorcycle ride at Three Mile Island that raised more than $7,000 for local veterans. More than 50 employees attended. Generation Nation member helped host U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Rick Perry and U.S. Representative John Katko at the FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant. Vision & Leadership Generation Nation would not be successful without the nuclear senior leadership team’s demonstrated vision and leadership. Brad Fewell, Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Security and General Counsel at Exelon Generation, serves as the executive sponsor for Generation Nation. Bryan Hanson, Exelon’s Chief Nuclear Officer, helped kick off the program and helped ensure Generation Nation and our advocacy efforts remain a key focus for employees. All members of the nuclear leadership team are active participants in Generation Nation and have helped recruit employees to join the organization. Generation Nation also helps employees grow as leaders. The more than 5,000 employees who joined Generation Nation in 2018 are part of an innovative, productive program that strengthens their communications and leadership skills and cultivates stronger relationships in the community.
