Productivity/Efficiency Before Generation Nation, employees who wanted to speak about nuclear energy in their communities had to reach out to the communications or government affairs departments to get talking points and materials or create their own. Today, employees have a complete set of the tools and training they need to communicate effectively with family, friends, neighbors and policymakers about the important role nuclear plays in a carbon-free future, as well as new channels to help them do that. Generation Nation enhances the ease and ability of employees to have impactful conversations that help people understand why supporting nuclear energy is so important, helping spread the message further. Transferability The program could be implemented by any operator at any time, and we continue to share our learnings with our peers and industry organizations including NEI, ANS, INPO and WANO. Nuclear Matters also is advancing an ambassador program similar to Generation Nation. The team is planning to expand Generation Nation to more Exelon employees in 2019. Communications Effective communications were key to recruiting and mobilizing Generation Nation members, and a host of innovative communications products and promotions were launched to engage supporters. Here’s a brief sampling: Member Communications The communications team created and executed a comprehensive communications plan that drove all aspects of the recruitment campaign. Communications organized and executed registration drives, videos and in-person presentations at employee meetings, as well as fliers and digital signage. The communications team also utilized innovative digital tools, including a mobile app where Generation Nation has its own channel for sharing internal updates along with top headlines about the nuclear industry and need for advocacy. Employees received regular updates on the Exelon intranet pages, including a dedicated Generation Nation portal that houses fact sheets, news and other resources for members. A set of trainings held regionally gave the group an opportunity to ask questions and hear why and how top executives advocate for nuclear in their daily lives. Each Exelon nuclear location nominated a site champion that served as the on-site coordinator for recruitment and events. In 2019, the additional trainings will be held. Communications wrote several messages from nuclear leadership regarding the importance of joining Generation Nation and CNO Bryan Hanson included the program as one of the highlights of 2018 in his year- end message to employees.
