Emergency Diesel
Genearator Sets
More than 100
Fairbanks Morse
diesel power generators are standing by
24/7 to ramp up in seconds to supply
critical emergency power without
interruption. Generator sets from
Fairbanks Morse are backed by world-
class service, factory-direct engineering
and essential OEM replacement parts.
Fairbanks
Morse
designs,
manufactures and tests medium speed
diesel engine generator sets to comply
with Nuclear Regulatory Commission
(NRC) requirements. Emergency Diesel
Generator (EDG) sets supply electrical
power to safely shut down the nuclear
reactor in the event of a loss of normal
offsite power, coolant accident or other
operational anomaly. Typically installed
in groups of two or more for redundancy
purposes, the EDGs are designed utilizing
the same stringent requirements as all
other safety systems inside the plant.

MV Cables
General Cable
, a wire and cable
manufacturer and supplier of medium-
voltage (MV) cables to the utility
industry, introduced its MV line of
ULTROL
®
60+ nuclear-qualified cable.
This MV cable solution joins the ranks
of low-voltage (LV) ULTROL
®
cables
that recently passed 60-year-life testing.
General Cable’s ULTROL 60+ cables
support both the existing nuclear fleet and
Gen III reactors.
General Cable began a five-year
testing and certification program in
2008 to develop MV cables that meet
Association of Edison Illuminating
Companies (AEIC) qualifications for
60-year-life in the most rigorous inside
containment applications.
General Cable’s third-party testing
ensures conformance of ULTROL 60+
to all nuclear requirements under ASME
NQA-1 and US NRC 10CFR50Appendix
B, as well as regulatory guidelines of
nuclear reactor manufacturers. Kinectrics
(formerly Ontario Hydro Technologies)
completed thermal aging, radiation
exposure and Design Basis Events (DBE)
testing to a total integrated dosage of up to
350 MRad gamma radiation, confirming
that General Cable’s ULTROL 60+
MV products meet both prior industry
standards and Gen III+ reactor profile
requirements for a proven 60-year service
life.

Generator Services
Alstom
has secured the
5.1 million
($6.8 million) contract to retrofit the
generators at Paks Nuclear Power Plant
(NPP) in central Hungary. Providing
40% of Hungary’s electricity, Paks NPP
is crucial to the country’s energy security.
Its 2,000 MW power generation capacity
powers almost a million households.
Alstom Hungary will service the
eight operating generators across four
nuclear reactor blocks plus one spare
generator in a deal with Paks NPP that
offers improved operational reliability.
The work will be carried out at Alstom’s
generator services in Budapest, utilizing
the skills and expertise of both Hungarian
and international engineer teams as well
as several domestic subcontractors.

Fuel Assemblies
AREVA
has been awarded a contract
for the fabrication of fuel assemblies for
five reloads for the Gösgen nuclear power
plant. In the frame of this supply contract,
AREVA will deliver 180 fuel assemblies
to the Swiss utility, Gösgen- Däniken AG
(KKG), starting in 2018.
AREVA constructed the Gösgen
nuclear power plant and has been
fabricating its fuel elements since its
startup in 1979. The group is currently
retrofitting the reactor’s instrumentation
and control technology using AREVA’s
digital safety I&C TELEPERM
®
XS
system.

Outage Services
AREVA
has entered into a long-
term integrated outage services contract
with PSEG Nuclear for outage and
maintenance activities at the Salem
units 1 and 2 and Hope Creek nuclear
generating stations in Salem County,
New Jersey.
The scope of work covers refueling,
inspections and steam generator services,
and operations will begin in fall 2013.
As part of these activities, AREVA will
