by AMS at the Arkansas Nuclear One
(ANO) nuclear power plant, Commanche
Peak nuclear power plant, as well as the
High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) at the
Oak Ridge National Lab. In doing so, all
questions regarding EMC and cyber
security were resolved to the satisfaction
of the plant management.
Conclusion
The system described here will pro-
vide nuclear plant operators with a great-
er understanding of spent fuel pool condi-
tions, such as water level and temperature,
in both normal and post-accident scenar-
ios. Additionally, the implementation of
new spent fuel pool instrumentation for
continuous monitoring in beyond design
basis events, such as the Fukushima ac-
cident, would allow for effective, targeted
emergency response procedures. As a re-
sult, an increased level of safety will be
achieved in the current fleet of nuclear
plants and in the next generation of reac-
tors as they come online.
